Traumatic Brain InjuryAt traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a very serious issue that can result in long-term disability.  In fact, each year, about 80,000 American suffer from long-term disability that has resulted in brain Injury.  Typically a TBI is either mild or severe.  Typically a mild TBI is one with a mild loss of consciousness and confusion for less than thirty minutes.  Other symptoms can be headaches, difficulty thinking, memory problems and mood swings just to name a few.  Severe TBI are usually associated with periods of unconsciousness greater than thirty minutes or a penetrating brain injury.  Some of the long term effects can be impairment of cognitive abilities  and even comatose states.  This usually will require long term rehabilitation, even the mild TBI can have long term effects on social and family relationships.
