Toyota Settles Two High Profile Acceleration Cases
According to the LA Times, Toyota has settled to cases (fatalities) which involving alleged sudden acceleration resulting from improperly installed floor mats and sticky gas pedals. Both which were the subject of a recall. The auto manufacturer is facing hundreds of related lawsuits in state and federal courts across the country. Many of the Plaintiffs in those cases alleged that faulty electronics were the cause of the sudden impact. However, Toyota is standing by government investigations which indicate that many of these accidents were due to driver error and not any product defect. Toyota is attempting to mitigate future lawsuits by including confidentiality clauses in the two settled matters.
