Police Shooting of A Dog Becomes a Federal Case

Officers in a Washington town shot and killed a stray Newfoundland who was sniffing grass in a resident’s yard. The dog’s owners, Charles and Deirde Wright, are suing the City of Des Moines Washington and the two officers who were involved in the dog shooting. (read complaint). Police, who had the owners’ information, did not even attempt to contact the dog’s owners prior to killing it.
A dog owner filed a similar suit in Maryland recently went to judgment, the jury awarded the owner $607,500.00.
