Florida First State To Regulate Law Firms' Social Media Pages
The Florida bar recently issued guidelines for advertising and social networking sites. The Florida State Bar has mandated that any request for a non-client to follow the firm on twitter, is subject to advertising rules. Attorneys are concerned about the new guidelines and their applicability to Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin, are attorneys to state office location on each tweet, post or link?
The bar further requires that a lawyer’s networking site, a banner advertisement on a social networking site must be filed for review with the Florida State Bar for review.
Does this new guideline go to far? Does it infringe on a lawyers/law firm’s first amendment right of free commercial speech?
