Bye Bye Buckyballs
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has suggested that the manufactures ofbuckyballs, recall its product as it has received approximately 50 reports of children and teens ingesting the product. Buckyballs are sold as a an adult desktop toy to pass the boredom of the daily desk life. However, some teens and children use them to mimic tongue and lip piercings.
The problem is that the magnetic attraction is so great that the balls naturally draw to one another. Thus when ingested the balls can tear intestinal tissue or bind together to close intestinal tissue. In all but one of the reported cases the children require medical intervention. However some of the retailers who sell the product have voluntarily pulled the product from their shelves.
